Wiltshire is a large rural county with a number of attractive rural villages and market towns. The Music Service is part of the Schools and Learning Directorate of the Department for Children and Education. It supplies instrumental/vocal tuition to schools across the county and runs a full range of out of school ensembles and choirs. The recent MSEP report described the service as ‘a well managed organisation that provides high quality teaching and diverse music-making opportunities for its learners’
As Team Leader, West and Music Director of WWYM (www.wwym.org.uk) you will lead a team of committed conductors and tutors and conduct the West Wiltshire Youth Orchestra. The young musicians have told us that they need an enthusiastic, charismatic leader with excellent musical knowledge. They would like a good listener who is friendly, has a good sense of humour and a passion for youth music making.
You will line manage a team of full and part-time teachers, including having responsibility for their performance management, and you will undertake regular teaching responsibilities.
In return you can expect a supportive environment, you will benefit from extensive in-service development and you will have the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of out of school ensembles in West Wiltshire.
You will be educated to degree level, have exceptional skills as a conductor and have an up to date knowledge of local and national initiatives in music education. You will be able to articulate a clear vision of how ensemble provision can be developed, have an ability to think strategically and to lead new initiatives and large scale events.
