GUERNSEY SCHOOLS’ MUSIC SERVICE
Head of Strings
The service is seeking to appoint, with effect from 1st September 2010, a well-qualified and experienced teacher of violin and viola, as Head of Strings. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the person appointed will contribute towards the strategic direction of the Service and lead a small dedicated, team of string teachers. He or she will demonstrate the ability to teach successfully from beginner to diploma level. They will also have the necessary skills to lead and direct Music Centre orchestras and ensembles to a high standard.
An energetic, inspiring and motivating teacher is required with good directing skills. He or she will need to show a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning, and the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
Most Music Centre activities take place on Saturdays and older pupils are often timetabled outside curriculum time, so candidates must be prepared to work flexibly from Tuesday through to, and including, most Saturdays during term time. Teachers are expected to travel between schools during the schoolday with any instruments and equipment that they require.
The responsibilities for this post also include management of the stock of instruments.
This is an excellent opporuntiy to join a committed team of teachers in an established Service with a reputation for high standards, which is recognised as making a very significant contribution to the Island’s cultural life.
This is a permanent post which carries a full 15 year (permanent) housing licence and the successful candidate can expect to:
• Receive a relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
• Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances in an island with no VAT.
Salary will be in accordance with the Guernsey Main Professional Scale £25,607 to £36,770 per annum, plus the Management Allowance Level 2 payment of £4,469 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment.

Wiltshire is a large rural county with a number of attractive rural villages and market towns. Wiltshire Music Service is part of the Schools and Learning Directorate of the Department for Children and Education. It supplies instrumental/vocal tuition to schools across the county and runs a full range of out of school ensembles and choirs. The recent MSEP report described the service as ‘a well managed organisation that provides high quality teaching and diverse music-making opportunities for its learners’.
We are looking for someone to join the Wiltshire Music Service senior management team to support the strategic development of the service. You will line manage vocal and curriculum teachers in the service, including having responsibility for their performance management.
You will represent the Wiltshire Music Service on the steering group of the SWAG (Swindon Wiltshire and Gloucestershire) consortium for Sing Up and take a lead role in the development of singing and curriculum support projects for primary schools in Wiltshire. This job will combine a management role with regular teaching responsibilities.

You will be able to articulate a clear vision of how vocal skills can be developed in all children, have an ability to think strategically and lead new initiatives and large scale events.
