The Music & Arts Service are a forward looking and dynamic service that provides curriculum and instrumental/vocal teaching to schools in the Bradford district. We require a part-time string teacher from September 2011.

Experience of whole class and large group tuition is desirable for teaching posts. Teachers will be expected to be qualified to a minimum of Music Diploma.

Job Description

Post title: Peripatetic Part Time String Teacher

Main purpose of the role

• To teach pupils in groups and individually both in schools and at music centres
• To tutor and direct, as needed, both choirs and/or ensembles in schools and at music centres
• To participate in concerts and performances
• To deliver KS2/wider opportunity schemes

Instrumental/Vocal teachers are expected to be committed, enthusiastic musicians and teachers, able to motivate pupils. They should be receptive to innovations in instrumental/vocal teaching and be committed to working as part of a team of professional teachers dedicated to offering a high quality music education.

Strategic:
• None

Operational:
• Implement and have regard to Education Bradford’s policies and procedures, including living and promoting Education Bradford’s Values and Vision.
• Monitor and assess pupils giving immediate and constructive feedback supporting pupils’ learning.
• Plan and deliver clearly structured lessons which interest and motive pupils.
• Ability to plan for groups of mixed ability pupils using a recognised instrument/vocal curriculum eg A Common Approach
• Know how to incorporate digital technology effectively in teaching
• Make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the music service and in the schools in which teaching takes place
• Responsible for maintaining clear, accurate and up to date records of pupils.

People management:
• Must take part in annual Performance Management review.
• Share and disseminate good practice to colleagues.

Financial management:
• At all times operate with appropriate financial discipline.

Key objectives

Key objectives will be mutually agreed with the immediate line manager during the annual performance management process. The post-holder will be judged at the next performance management meeting on how well these objectives have been met.

Person Specification

Education, training & qualifications

• Minimum of a Music degree or diploma from a recognised university or music college
• QTS status (desirable)

Experience & knowledge

• Instrumental/vocal teaching
• Instrumental/vocal teaching in groups
• Whole class instrumental/vocal teaching
• Conducting ensembles/choirs
• Sound knowledge of all instruments in specialist family
• Experience of using ICT (desirable)

Skills, attitudes & behaviours
